Stories Celebrating Neurodiversity

A/Prof Giaroli has published several illustrated children’s stories to help young people celebrate their neurodiversity

Our team strongly believe in early childhood education around neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism and other conditions) for both neurodiverse children, their families, as for the general population at large.

Therefore, A/Prof Giaroli and illustrator Elisa Pellacani published a trilogy of children’s illustrated books (248 pages in total) that follow “Melissa” (a very chatty bee) and “Silvano” (a vegan wolf) and their journey of self discovery towards better understanding themselves and their neurodiversity, along with “Doctor Giovanni” (a barn owl) who helps them on their journey.

Foreword by A/Prof Giaroli: Why I wrote these stories

“I’m Associate Professor Giovanni Giaroli and I’m a clinical psychiatrist, but unlike ‘Doctor Giovanni’ in my story, I am not an owl. However, I certainly wouldn’t mind working in a forest with talking animals or being friends with Melissa and Silvano. I also wouldn’t mind having a squirrel as an assistant! All jokes aside, I have been a child and adolescent psychiatrist for more than twenty years and have spent the last ten years working specifically with children and adolescents who are neurodiverse. My three short stories refer to these specific aspects of psychiatry based on my professional and personal experience, and I hope that my readers and their families enjoy reading them”.
